VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System to Deploy Avicenna’s COVID-19 screening, management and analysis tools

Avicenna Medical Systems, a medical software developer, is pleased to announce that the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System will deploy Avicenna’s COVID-19 screening, management and analysis tools across inpatient and outpatient facilities.

These solutions interface directly with CPRS and VistA and help to improve clinical decision making and safety of both Veterans and the providers and clinicians involved in their care.

These new solutions include:

A COVID-19 Screening / Triage Tool for providers

Enables automated risk scoring and test recommendations based on the patient’s total score; taking into account parameters based on initial screening questions, other risk factors, most recent lab results, age and comorbidities.

The tool can be used in both inpatient and outpatient settings to initially determine whether testing should be done, document location of initial screening and provides a means to reassess patient status based on changes in condition, risk factors or lab results.

A COVID-19 Surveillance Tool

For the ongoing collection, analysis and dissemination of COVID-19 related clinical data. Enables tracking and reassessment of patients to continuously update status, regardless of patient’s current disposition (home, ER, ICU, etc.)  This tool also provides historic data on risk point score (past scores, location where past assessments were done, factors adding to the score, and details on past interactions).

This surveillance can be used to determine the occurrence rates of COVID-19 in Veterans and to characterize the clinical aspect of COVID-19 in the Veteran population (track patient cohort, aggregate data, analyze outcomes based on age, comorbidities, etc.)

A COVID-19 Inpatient Turbo Note to manage COVID-19 patients

A new section added in the Avicenna H&P Notes tool to document review of systems specific to COVID-19. This is a COVID-19 add-on for current users of Avicenna’s TurboNote software.

Erdwing Coronado, CEO and founder of Avicenna Medical Systems, said: “We are extremely happy to partner with the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System to deliver timely solutions to aid in providing care to veterans during the COVID-19 crisis”.
