Four stakeholder groups in the accountable care space have formed a coalition to help guide developments involving the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation’s recently launched ACCESS Model. Accountable for Health, America’s Physician Groups, the Health Care Transformation Task Force, and the National Association of Accountable Care Organizations (NAACOS) will share insights and lessons learned in ACCESS (Advancing Chronic Care with Effective, Scalable Solutions), a payment approach in traditional Medicare to expand access to new technology-supported care options to help patients manage chronic conditions.
Over the last 60 years, nurse practitioners (NPs) have become a vital part of the US health care workforce. A recent study estimates that the NP workforce will grow at nearly 11% annually from 2023 to 2030 — 10 times the projected growth rate of physicians (1.1%). Most of this growth is among early-career NPs. This analysis considers the impact of the profession’s rapid growth on access to high-quality primary care, particularly in safety net settings, where NPs already play an outsized role in care delivery.
Unite Us, Instacart Link Care Coordination and Grocery Benefits to Scale Food-as-Medicine
Unite Us and Instacart announced Tuesday that they are partnering to connect healthcare organizations’ care coordination efforts with grocery benefits, with the aim of making food-as-medicine programs easier to launch and operate at scale. The partnership, announced during Hunger Action Month, brings together Unite Us’ referral platform – which can help to identify eligible members – and Instacart’s robust delivery service. Stipends can be can be redeemed directly on the Instacart app or website — those stipends are for those receiving Medicare and Medicaid grocery benefits, nutrition support for managing chronic conditions and those transitioning home after an inpatient hospital stay.
AI can now perform up to 22% of US outpatient care: McKinsey
AI can perform care represented in 16% to 22% of U.S. outpatient claims, according to an analysis from McKinsey & Co. That work accounts for 13% to 19% of outpatient spending.
The Sept. 28 analysis of 2024 commercial, Medicare and Medicaid claims found that roughly 2 billion to 3 billion outpatient claims involve services clinical AI could potentially perform. McKinsey calls this category “discursive care,” meaning reasoning- and dialogue-based work such as intake, triage, diagnosis, referrals and follow-up that doesn’t require a hands-on exam.
37 states partner with CMS on initiative to rethink Medicaid quality measures
The Trump administration announced that it is launching a new partnership with 37 states that aims to rethink how quality is measured in Medicaid and CHIP. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said that the effort aims to put health outcomes "at the center of how success is defined."
